Father Harty took over the building of St. Shortly after this, money ran out and Father Sullivan requested to be transferred to Springfield. By 1839 there were two more families, a Thomas Carroll family and Mrs. When Jersey County was formed there was only one Catholic family, the Carroll family living in Elsah Township.
